Apple's auto-scaling rules (and when to ignore them)
App Store Connect downscales screenshots through this chain so you usually only upload the largest:
- iPhone: 6.9" → 6.5" → 6.3" → 6.1" → 5.5" → 4.7" → 4.0" → 3.5"
- iPad: 13" → 12.9" → 11" → 10.5" → 9.7"
When to upload extra sizes manually: text-heavy screenshots that lose legibility when scaled (small captions, dense UI), and any screenshot you want pixel-perfect on a specific class (e.g., showing iPhone SE-only UI to SE users).
Common rejection causes
| Reason | Fix |
|---|---|
| Wrong pixel dimensions | Re-export at the exact size from the table above. iPhone 6.9" base = . |
| Transparent PNG (alpha channel) | Export as 24-bit PNG with no alpha, or JPEG. Both stores reject alpha. |
| Play Store: long side > 2× short | Crop to within ratio. Recommended: 1080×1920. |
| File > 8 MB on Play | Re-export at lower JPEG quality or smaller dimensions. |
| Mixed aspect ratios in a single submission | All screenshots in the same class must share the same aspect. |

What is the App Store screenshot size in 2026?
The required iPhone size is 1320×2868 px (iPhone 6.9", portrait) and the required iPad size is 2064×2752 px (iPad 13", portrait). Apple auto-scales these down to every smaller class, so uploading just these two covers the entire iPhone + iPad fleet for most apps.
Do I need to upload every iPhone screenshot size?
No. Apple's App Store Connect auto-scales the 6.9" (1320×2868) set down through 6.5", 6.3", 6.1", 5.5", 4.7", 4.0", and 3.5". You only need to upload smaller sizes if you want pixel-perfect text or device-specific imagery on those classes.
What is the iPad Pro 13-inch screenshot size?
iPad Pro 13" (iPad Pro M4 / M5) screenshots are 2064×2752 px portrait or 2752×2064 px landscape. This replaces the older 2048×2732 size as the canonical iPad base.
What size are Google Play screenshots?
Google Play requires phone screenshots between 320 and 3840 pixels per side, with the long side no more than 2× the short side. Recommended is 1080×1920 portrait. Aspect ratio is flexible: 16:9 or 9:16.
What is the minimum number of screenshots required?
iOS requires at least 1 screenshot per submitted device class. Google Play requires at least 2 phone screenshots to publish. Both stores cap at 10 (iOS) / 8 (Play) per class.
Can I use JPEG or do I need PNG?
Both stores accept 24-bit PNG (no alpha channel) or high-quality JPEG. Google Play rejects PNGs with alpha — flatten on a solid background before upload.
What is the Apple Vision Pro screenshot size?
3840×2160 px landscape (UHD). Required for any visionOS app submission.
Does App Store Connect still accept the 1290×2796 iPhone size?
Yes, 1290×2796 is still accepted as legacy iPhone 6.7" (iPhone 16/15 Plus, 14 Pro Max, 13 Pro Max), but 1320×2868 (6.9") is now the canonical required base. Submitting 1320×2868 covers everything.
