Apple announced two App Store changes on October 5, 2026, and both touch the files you upload. The first adds iPhone Duo screenshot sizes. The second adds new creative assets for the product page header and for search results. This guide lists every number from Apple's own specification pages, says what each change means for a small team, and says what is still unclear. Last checked against Apple's pages on October 8, 2026.
iPhone Duo Screenshot Sizes
iPhone Duo has two displays, and Apple lists a size for each one in both orientations. These are the values on Apple's screenshot specifications page.
| Display | Portrait (px) | Landscape (px) |
|---|---|---|
| Outer display | 1398 × 2034 | 2034 × 1398 |
| Inner display | 2007 × 2853 | 2853 × 2007 |
Both orientations are accepted for each display, so you can ship portrait or landscape art. The two displays have different pixel dimensions, so one export will not cover both.
When Duo Screenshots Become Required
Apple's developer news post Prepare and submit your apps for iPhone Duo says: "Starting April 2027, any apps or games submitted will need to include screenshots for iPhone Duo." The same post says iPhone Duo is available to customers on October 23, 2026, and that you build with Xcode 27.1 for development support. It also mentions a new preview tool in App Store Connect that shows how your assets look on iPhone Duo.
One detail to watch: on October 8, 2026, the required sizes list on the screenshot specifications page still named only iPhone with Dynamic Island and the iPad 13-inch display. Duo appears there as a device option with its sizes. Apple's news post is the source for the April 2027 date, so plan around that and recheck the specification page before you submit.
New Creative Assets on the App Store
The second post, Showcase your apps with new assets on the App Store, introduces product page headers and search result assets. They sit next to your screenshots and app previews and do not replace them. Apple's creative assets specifications give these values.
Product page header
| Item | 21:9 | 16:9 |
|---|---|---|
| Image size | 3840 × 1646 | 5244 × 2950 |
| Image format | JPEG, JPG or PNG | JPEG, JPG or PNG |
| Video size | 3840 × 1646 | 5244 × 2950 |
Search results asset
| Item | 3:2 | 16:9 |
|---|---|---|
| Image size | 1920 × 1280 up to 3840 × 2560 | 5244 × 2950 |
| Image format | JPEG, JPG or PNG | JPEG, JPG or PNG |
| Video size | 1920 × 1280 up to 3840 × 2560 | 5244 × 2950 |
The shared rules for both placements:
- Images cannot include alpha channels or transparency.
- Video runs from 5 to 30 seconds at 30 or 60 fps, in .mov, .m4v or .mp4.
- Video is muted by default in search results and cannot be unmuted there. On the product page it is muted by default, and people can unmute it. It loops in both places.
- Creative assets are for iOS and iPadOS apps running iOS 27 or iPadOS 27 or later.
The 3:2 search results range is a minimum and a maximum, so any size inside it that keeps the 3:2 ratio fits the spec. The header and search results assets also appear in other organic placements, and Apple lists in-app events among them.
Asset Library and What Needs an App Version
Apple added an Asset Library to App Store Connect as one place for screenshots, app previews and creative assets. Per Apple's asset management page, you can submit creative assets as a standalone submission. They get approved without updating your app's version, and they are reviewed against your app's latest version.
Screenshots and app previews work differently. They need an app version, and you can only submit them while the version has one of these statuses: Prepare for Submission, Invalid Binary, Rejected, Metadata Rejected or Developer Rejected. In practice, a new screenshot set, Duo sizes included, goes live with a version, while a header asset can be approved ahead of time. Apple's news post describes this as a way to submit assets now for future seasonal campaigns.
What to Do This Month
- Read the four Apple pages linked in this guide and note any change since October 8, 2026.
- Check that your current screenshots follow the sizes in our complete screenshot size guide and the iPhone 17 size reference.
- Decide which of your screenshot layouts can be rebuilt at the inner display size of 2007 × 2853.
- Plan a header asset in 21:9 and a search results asset in 3:2, with no transparency in either file.
- Look up pixel sizes for other devices in the device resolution lookup.
If you also want to test new art against your current page, read the Product Page Optimization guide. For ways to get your app seen while you prepare, see how to promote your indie app for free, and browse the Apps of the Week hub.
Where Shotlingo Stands
Shotlingo does not export iPhone Duo sizes or creative asset formats yet. We plan to add support and will not give a date here. Until then, check what your export tool produces against the table above before you rely on it for a Duo submission. Today you can create a free Shotlingo account to build and localize screenshots at the current App Store sizes.
