Editing translations manually

Override any auto-translated string and keep your own wording in Shotlingo.

Automatic translation gets you a solid draft. Product names, taglines, and anything with a pun still need a human. Every translated string is editable.

Edit one string

  1. 1 Switch the canvas to the target language from the Languages tab.
  2. 2 Select the text block you want to change.
  3. 3 Open Translations in the right properties panel.
  4. 4 Type your wording. It replaces the generated value for that language only.

What to always check by hand

  • Your app name and any feature name you treat as a proper noun. These usually should not be translated at all.
  • Calls to action. "Get started" has an idiomatic equivalent in most languages that a literal translation misses.
  • Anything with a number or unit, where formatting conventions differ.
  • Right-to-left languages such as Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, and Urdu, where the layout mirrors and your text alignment may need adjusting.

Manual edits are kept in translation memory, so the next project that uses the same phrase starts from your wording instead of the machine default.
